Far infrared saunas are a new generation of saunas that use infrared radiant heat to warm the tissue deeply, allowing sweat to be released at a much lower temperature than in traditional saunas. This particular type of energy or radiant heat is just below (infra) red light on the electromagnetic spectrum. It is the same heat (without the light) that comes from the sun, and is also emitted from the human body. Radiant heat warms an object directly without heating the air between objects.
Validated by research, infrared sauna therapy is being shown to have additional benefits and clinical uses beyond those of traditional saunas.
Benefits of infrared sauna therapy include:
Detoxification – Toxins accumulate in the body from a variety of sources, including air pollution, chemicals in treated water, pesticides and herbicides in food, chemical additives in food, and even from normal food digestion and cell metabolism.
Immune System – Several functions of the immune system are enhanced in the presence of sauna heat. Higher body temperatures increase the antiviral activity disease fighting cells.
Calorie burning – In one sauna session, a moderately conditioned person produces about 500 grams of sweat, burning approximately 300 calories.
Passive cardiovascular conditioning Sauna usage can improve cardiovascular function similarly to exercise training.
Skin – Sauna contributes to healthy skin by increasing blood circulation to the skin surface, bringing oxygen and nutrients.
Pain Relief – Benefits those with chronic pain, Fibromyalgia, arthritis (including rheumatoid arthritis), sports injury - soft tissue injuries and headaches.
Other benefits – Decreased anxiety, improved sleep quality, decreased premenstrual symptoms, sinus congestion, and with regular use fewer common colds.
A sauna session usually lasts from 30-40 minutes. There is a shower provided on the premises.
